The buzzing visitor

A wasp is yellow with black stripes. It has a narrow body and shiny wings. Its belly comes to a point. Sometimes, it stops by your lemonade or ice cream. It loves sweets too! But if you stay calm, it often flies away on its own.

Did you know that…

  • The bright colours of the wasp are a warning. It shows: be careful, I want to be left alone.

  • A wasp likes sweets, but also mosquitoes and flies. So you don’t need to share your food with the wasp!
     

  • Wasps can sting. They only do this if they’re scared or feel threatened.

Wasps are sometimes curious, but not mean. Stay calm if one is nearby, and don’t swat with your arms. Close your drink or food when you’re finished. Then, they usually fly away on their own.
